2nd Annual LYC SwordFight Photos & Results
The Winners: Top Junior Angler Harrison Smith

This was the first time LYC has held a fishing tournament open to the general public
and the overwhelming feeling is that it was a great success. On Wednesday evening before the event Tom Green from Custom Rod and Reel in Lighthouse point held a great seminar giving us all last minute tips on what was happening with the swordfishing prior to the weekend. Friday evening's skippers meeting was a great party outside at the new pavillion and we all spent the day saturday getting ready for a long night of fishing that evening. Unfortunately Mother Nature dealt us quite a hard blow by placing a strong summer thunderstorm right over the Swordfishing grounds just at the time that the tournament started so all of the teams were forced to deal with 30 knot winds, buckets of rain, and some downright terrifying lightening. Fortunately by 10:30 pm the storm dissapeared and the fleet was treated to a marvelous evening of fishing. While the catching wasn't as good as it had been the week before the event the 26 boats fishing did manange to catch 8 swordfish. In the effort to promote conservation we required competitors to release any fish not a minimum of 56" long - the state legal limit is only 47". Six fish were released while two were large enough to be weighed. Commodore Dan Ashlin's son Brad Ashlin on board Salt Shaker weighed in a 108 lb fish to win the tournament overall while the team on Lady Pamela were a close second with a 92lb fish. 16 year old Harrison Smith managed to release a 60 lb fish on board team "Young Guns" to take the top Junior Angler award.
